One of the questions I hear most often is…

“Where should we go for the best lobster?”

Ask ten Mainers, and you’ll probably get ten different answers. But that’s part of the fun.

Here are a few of the places I find myself recommending again and again—whether you’re craving the perfect lobster roll, a classic lobster dinner, or simply a picnic table overlooking the water.

Bar Harbor & Acadia
Thurston’s Lobster Pound (Bass Harbor)

This is the real deal. Fresh-off-the-boat lobster, picnic tables overlooking a working harbor, and one of the most authentic Downeast experiences you’ll find.

Belfast
Young’s Lobster Pound

Choose your lobster, grab a table overlooking Belfast Harbor, and don’t be surprised if you end up lingering for hours. It’s wonderfully simple—and that’s exactly why people love it.

Rockland
Claws

Right on the waterfront, Claws has become a Midcoast tradition. Order the lobster roll, enjoy the harbor views, and then stroll downtown for a little shopping or an ice cream.

St. George Peninsula
McLoon’s Lobster Shack

If I could only recommend one classic Maine lobster shack, this would be it. Tucked away at the end of a working lobster wharf, it feels like discovering one of Maine’s best-kept secrets. Grab a picnic table by the water—and whatever you do, save room for the wild blueberry pie.

Boothbay Region
Robinson’s Wharf (Southport)

A local favorite overlooking the harbor, Robinson’s Wharf serves up fresh lobster, beautiful waterfront views, and the laid-back atmosphere that makes you want to stay long after lunch.

Moosehead Lake

No lobster shacks here—but after a day on the lake, Kelly’s Landing is one of my favorite spots to enjoy fresh Maine seafood with a beautiful waterfront setting.
