Ginn on the Rocks is located Crescent Beach in Owls Head, nestled amongst other period Summer Cottages that have dotted the coastline for as long as anyone can remember.
It sits directly on the waterfront with unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean, specifically Penobscot Bay, the Mussel Ridge Channel and the dozens of islands that dot the horizon. Originally built in 1940 for the Crockett Family, the vintage charm has been lovingly maintained. And while some modern amenities have been added, the uncomplicated simplicity remains – in short, this sweet cottage feels like a Maine Summer Cottage should. It feels like white curtains waving in a salty breeze, it sounds waves hitting the shore and lobster boats puttering around the islands in the distance…Crescent Beach Cottage promises naps after a day at the beach, coffee on the deck in the morning, bike rides to the General Store for lunch and feet up at the end of the day as the sun sets and dips below the pines trees.
Ginn Point is a dead-end road that runs along Crescent Beach, one of the only sandy beaches in the area. This is a very walkable and bikeable area and it’s fun to explore all the tiny lanes that make up the neighborhood. And for those up to a longer walk or bike ride, the village of Owls Head is close by and you won’t want to miss it – the famous Owls Head General Store is a local favorite, known for its delicious food especially the “Seven Napkin Burger”. The Owls Head State Park is nearby – its iconic Lighthouse is a must see. At low tide, the beach is a perfect spot to set up for the day; this is a “zero entry” beach when the tide is out making it easy to access the water for people of all ages. Here, people swim, paddleboard and kayak at all tides and for guests of our cottage, access to the beach and the water is direct. No need to pack up for the day – your cottage is your cabana and heading back for lunch, a change of clothes, a little time out of the sun is easy as a walk across the beach.
The cottage has 1 large bedroom and 2 bathrooms; it can sleep 4 people (one king and one queen pullout). The main living area has a kitchen, dining area and a living room, all overlooking the waterfront. A gas fireplace makes this the “best room in the house” on chilly nights or a rainy day – curl up with a book, finish a puzzle or play a board game – a lot of great memories have been made here. There is a cozy den at the back of the cottage with a smart television for those sports games you don’t want to miss or to binge a show if the weather isn’t cooperating.
A large deck out front overlooks the lawn leading down to the water. The views from the deck, at any time of the day, are perfection; because there is very little light pollution here on the beach, stargazing from this venue is spectacular.
The Saint George Peninsula (home to Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde), Rockland, Thomaston, Camden and Rockport are all just a quick car ride away; day trips to Belfast, Acadia, Boothbay, Portland (just to name a few) are also easy from this location. Access to the islands (Monhegan, Vinalhaven, North Haven, Isleboro, etc.) via ferry are also close by.
*Kayaks, canoe and other water craft/equipment can be rented locally.
